To ensure energy suppliers operating in the Queensland energy market abide by relevant legislation, regulation and codes, and act in a manner which recognises the rights of all consumers, all licensed energy suppliers in Queensland who supply small* energy customers with electricity or gas (listed below) must become members of the EOQ scheme. This means that EOQ can assist with unresolved customer complaints about these energy companies.
ENERGY RETAILERS
Energy retailers are the companies that bill consumers for their energy use. Types of issues you might want to contact your energy retailer about could include: payment, account and contract issues; disconnection; and conduct of their telemarketers/door-to-door sellers. Types of issues you might want to contact your energy distributor about could include: loss of power; damages to property and equipment; and issues with vegetation (eg. maintenance of trees around powerlines).

*A small energy customer is a domestic or small business consumer whose electricity consumption is under 100 megawatt hours per year or gas consumption is under one terajoule per year.
**Dalby and Roma Regional Councils each hold a retailer authority that permits them to retail natural gas to consumers within their distribution network area. Customers within these areas are currently excluded from retail competition and must contact their area retailer to arrange a natural gas supply.
